Our Developer's Story

Ken Templeton, President of Templeton Development Corporation, has developed commercial and residential properties since 1981. An active community leader, Ken Templeton is a distinguished member of the American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA) and has had the distinction of being Chairman of the Board of three different Las Vegas banks since 1993; Chairman of the Board of the Problem Gaming Center, a non-profit agency dedicated to the treatment of gaming addiction; and Chairman of the Board of the City Center Development Corporation, the redevelopment subsidiary for the Coty of Las Vegas. Other organizations that Ken has been involved with include the Boys and Girls Club, Nevada Heart Association, the National Association of Realtors, Boy Scouts, Project Sunshine, and the Sothern Nevada Homebuilders Association. Ken does not believe in sacrificing quality construction to lower building costs. Instead, his developments offer superior design and construction excellence, at an affordable price. The trademarks of all Templeton developments are the extensive landscaping and striking architectural designs that beautify and enhance each neighborhood in which they are built.

In the late 1980’s, Ken became concerned over a growing senior housing shortage in the Las Vegas valley. Research conducted by Clark County demographers suggested the lack of senior housing in Clark County was becoming a major economic issue. Considering the fact that Las Vegas and Sacramento continue to be two of the nations’ top retirement choices, Ken committed himself to fill the need for senior housing. In 1993, Carefree Senior Living apartment communities emerged. Carefree apartment communities offer senior residents the distinction of a quality lifestyle, companionship, superior amenities, and activities for residents with diverse interests and physical levels.

Ken takes a personal interest in knowing the people who live at his apartment communities by attending special functions and social events sponsored for residents in the Clubhouse. As a developer, over the last decade Ken Templeton has owned and operated eleven senior communities in the Las Vegas area. TDC is the largest developer of market rate senior apartment communities in the western United States and carries a 25+ year history that includes 3,000+ units and over 24,555 active senior adults. In 2004, Ken sold the nine Las Vegas Carefree communities to help some of his partners transition into retirement. The sale of the nine Carefree communities became the largest multi-family transaction in Las Vegas’ history. Ken sold the communities but kept the Carefree Senior Living brand name. As this was an unprecedented achievement by any developer, Ken was further inspired to keep building and expanding the Carefree portfolio. 2007 brought the opening of Carefree in the Willows Village of Summerlin in Las Vegas. The community features 300 apartment homes in two and three story buildings with extraordinary views of the Red Rock mountain range west of Las Vegas. The future holds plans for new developments in Nevada, California and Colorado.
